Linxiu Yang; Xiaojuan, Lv

Abstract
Reporting evidentials are frequently used in Research Articles. By integrating Swales’ model of generic structure and Martin & White’s engagement system, this thesis intends to make a comparison of reporting evidentials in different generic structures based on the data analysis of 60 research articles. The study reveals that by choosing different information sources and lexica grammatical realization forms, writers prefer to express different evaluative meanings in different generic structures. The various functions of generic structures lead to the different distributions. At the same time, the persuasive effects and implications are also analyzed.
